“Wait….,” Hannah shouted from a distance. As soon as she noticed that the door of the common elevator was about to shut. It was the 56th floor and she would have to wait for another 10 minutes if she missed this trip.
Seeing her panting, someone kindly pressed the open button from inside. Hannah hastily approached the elevator and accommodate herself inside. “Thanks.” She said, particularly to nobody.
Except for Hannah, six people were standing inside the spacious elevator. Two men and four girls. They all were chatting with each other. Hannah had just entered the elevator and she was also not familiar with those people so she was naturally not the participant in the conversation.
“What have you prepared for the company’s annual day celebration?” Asked a girl.
“My department has chosen me for the ramp show so, it’s natural that I’ll go with some designer outfit.” Another girl replied, sounding proud.
“Don’t you think you are a little short to participate in the fashion show?” The girl retorted from Hannah’s left side.
“So what, I have all the curves, required for the beauty peasant.” The first girl replied irritatingly.
“Is that so? Anyway; the Account department already lacks a female employee, let alone a beautiful one.” A man mocked in a low voice.
“Ding”. Before the girl could retort his mockery, the lift door opened and Hannah rushed forward, ignoring the result of the conversation.
“Wasn’t that Manager Morphis from the marketing department. She is a natural beauty, if she participates in the beauty peasant, it is just a piece of cake for her to win, not in the company but even in the country”. Another man, who was standing quite all the way, spoke from behind.
It was the habit of employees to gossip or argue on some random topic while taking the elevator, upward or downward, every day. Hannah had become immune to such conversations. She didn’t have time to waste on these useless topics. She has to walk fast to catch the train from the subway station.
Hannah was almost running down the road, suddenly her mobile started ringing. She put her hand in the right-side pocket of her pant and checked the caller without halting for a second.
Without seeing the name flashing on the screen; she swiped the green mark the screen.
“Hello.” She said, panting.
“Hey, why are you running so fast? I’m waiting outside your company for almost half a day and you just ran without noticing my presence.” Christy Louise’s scream could be heard from a distance.
Listening to her words; Hannah stopped walking and turned around to see the person.
She immediately spotted the chubby girl chasing after her. Hannah hung the call and stared at the panting girl who was standing right in front of her to catch her breath.
“Hannah, you are doing it deliberately, Right?” Christy was pissed off.
“Christy, if you are here for that reason then please, leave. I’m not interested in talking with you.” Hannah flatly replied; dodging her question.
“Look Hannah, we are childhood friends, I know I should have not behaved like that but you know that I love Mathew since we were children. I didn’t think about anybody else except you when he suddenly refused me saying that he was secretly dating someone.
At that time, I was not in a position to think straight and blamed you for stealing him from me. I wanted to own him, that’s why I drugged the drink. It was for him but you accidentally drank that. Trust me; it was just an accident that you picked the glass; I prepared for him. I also tried to catch you and take you to the hospital but I didn’t know that you would have been kidnapped. Please forgive me.” Christy kowtowed in front of Hannah ignoring the strange eyes of the crowd.
Hannah didn’t want to create the scene on the road. She stepped forward and helped her to get up.
“Christy, please don’t make a scene. I’m not blaming you for anything but it is also not possible for me to stay like before with you. It’s better to part our ways. Please don’t follow me in future.” Hannah didn’t want to have any relationship with this old friend of hers.
Before Christy came back to her senses, Hannah left for the subway, trying hard to suppress the bitterness in her heart. Christy’s jealousy ruined her life.
As soon as Hannah opened the door of her house; she was scared by seeing the person sitting on the sofa.
“How did you get in?” She questioned, trying to put a calm expression on her face.
“Do you think a lock can restrain me from entering?” Tom Willis sneered.
Tom Willis was Hannah’s distant cousin, he always had a bad eye on Hannah. When Hannah thought about moving out of Morphin house, she was taken home by one of her distant aunts but she could hardly stay at their house for six months. During her stay with the Willis family, Hannah was attempted to sexually harassed by Tom.
Luckily his mother was a righteous woman and she chose to support Hannah over her son.
Clair Willis, Hannah’s aunt, chased her son out of her house. She also helped Hannah to rent an apartment to let her stay away from her son in case if he come back.
This way, Hannah cut all the ties with Tom Willis. Later she knew that Tom had also moved out of Willis’s mention.
Today she has seen him after almost four years.
“Who gave you my address?” Hannah asked, irritated.
“Tsk…. Tsk, Hannah; you actually underestimated me. There’s nothing I couldn’t find. Let alone your address.”
“Get lost.” Shouted Hannah, somewhat scared. She didn’t want to entertain him. His presence alone was making her terrified.
“Do you think it’s up to you to decide whether I’ll stay here or not? It’s your good luck that I am not interested in you anymore. My girlfriend is pregnant and I need money for her delivery. Since you were the reason that mom drove me out, you have to pay for it. “Saying this, he snatched Hannah’s hand bag and took out her bank card.
“What is the password?” He asked in an overbearing manner.
“600453.”Seeing that the card, picked by Tom, had only a few hundred dollars in it, Hannah silently comforted herself and tell the pin.
“You are better not telling the wrong pin or you’ll regret it, also restrain yourself to tell anything to your dear aunt about this.” After threatening her, Tom left in a hurry. Hannah heaved a sigh of relief and closed the door carefully.
It took a while to her to calm down, after calming down herself, she picked her mobile and call a real estate agent. “Hello, I want to rent an apartment, it should be in a well secured society.” She couldn’t take any chance to let Tom find her again.
The next day was Saturday so Hannah checked the society recommended by the real estate agent and after seeing three properties, she finalized a studio apartment. Although it was a little small it was still comfortable.
‘Rise Apartments’ was the name of the group housing society. It was located near her office. She didn’t need to take any transport for her office.
The best part was that this society was very close to her company and the security here was very tight. The next day Hannah shifted to the new apartment and the whole Sunday was spent in the setting of the new apartment.
When she went to the company on Monday, she found that the office environment was somewhat strange, people were discussing something in different groups.
As soon as Hannah sat on her seat, her colleague Wendy immediately came up to her. “Hannah, do you know that our company has been sold. The new management is taking charge from today.
